Book Collected Poems

As it has for so long
come wind and all weather
the house glimmers among
the mists of a little
river that splinters, it
seems, a landscape of
winter dreams.

— From Morning in Norfolk

Rich descriptions of surrounding landscapes and themes of family relationships also feature in much of George Barker’s writing. His poems include “Sonnet to My Mother”, a celebration of the strength of the mother figure and “Grandfather, Grandfather”, a heart-warming depiction of a grandfather engaging with his granddaughter’s innocent imagination. “Morning in Norfolk” captures the same rural Norfolk landscapes that are home to many of the characters in Raffaella’s own novels.
